The NSERC 'Joint Prizes': Herzberg, Polanyi, Brockhouse, and Strickland, are expected to open for nominations in early 2023, and the Office of Research Prizes and Awards is offering support for all UBC nominations including consultation, review of nomination files, and coordination of (optional) VPRI signoff.
The prizes, which offer up to $1M (Herzberg) or $250,000 (Brockhouse, Polanyi, and Strickland) in funding, are:
- Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering
- Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering
- John C. Polanyi Award
- Donna Strickland Prize for Societal Impact of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research
While a person or team may be nominated for more than one NSERC prize in the same year (Herzberg, Polanyi, Brockhouse, Strickland, Synergy, or McDonald), one can only receive one prize in a given year.
Expected deadline for all awards: April 1, 2023 (This date is a Saturday, so NSERC will accept applications until Monday, April 3 at 5 pm Pacific)
