UBC is invited to nominate up to two applicants for an exciting Chemical Biology funding initiative from Ono Pharma Foundation. This opportunity is intended to support early- or mid-career researchers (not more than 15 years since first academic appointment) with funding to pursue a novel, innovative research project that could lead to the development of breakthrough treatment solutions for patients.
Award Highlights:
The Ono Initiative offers $900k (USD) over 3 years to fund “high-risk and high-reward science research projects which have the potential to lead to science discoveries/solutions and, based on further research, to breakthrough treatments for patients.”
For 2025, subjects of interest include but are not limited to:
• Modulating interactome and cell/tissue crosstalk
• Manipulating biomolecular condensates and protein quality control systems
• Deep understanding and emerging applications of chemical glycobiology
• New concepts of drug delivery and localization to tissue/cell/organelle
• Understanding and leveraging allostery in biology
Other Chemical Biology topics are welcome.
Nomination Process:
As UBC can only nominate two applicants for this funding, the Office of Research Prizes and Awards (VPRI) is managing an internal selection process.
UBC internal selection deadline: January 23, 2025 (EOD)
Interested candidates should submit the following items by the internal selection deadline of January 23 to kevin.mccartney@ubc.ca:
