Award Details

The Canada Gairdner Awards recognize and celebrate the work of the world’s best biomedical researchers. Over the past 53 years, Gairdner has gained a superb international reputation for its early recognition of medical breakthroughs that have changed the way medicine is practised.

Annually, six awards are given:

  • five Canada Gairdner International Awards for biomedical research, valued at $250,000
  • the John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award, specifically for impact on global health issues, valued at $100,000
