The Royal Society of Canada will soon open nominations for the 2026 cohort of RSC Members - New Fellows and Members of the RSC College and RSC Awards. We encourage you to begin considering nominations for your colleagues, especially if you are a current Fellow or College Member.
The deadline is December 15, 2025 at 5pm Pacific for Fellows, College Members, and Award nominations.
Fellows and College Members:
ORPA support will be available for all nominations of UBC research faculty members, regardless of nominator. ORPA will also coordinate institutional nominations under the President – we aim to prioritize departments or units that do not have access to Fellows or College members as nominators.
In order to facilitate planning and support, we are requesting notice of planned nominations (including requests for institutional nomination and renomination).

Medals and Awards open this year (December 15 deadline)
Candidates may be nominated by existing Royal Society Members or via UBC institutional nomination. We encourage nominators and those interested to contact our office for nomination support, including consultation, package review, and/or coordinating institutional nomination.
The following Medals and Awards are available:
- Bancroft Award: For instruction and research in the science of geology
- Flavelle Medal: For meritorious achievement in biological science
- Innis–Gérin Medal: For a distinguished and sustained contribution to the literature of the social sciences
- J. B. Tyrrell Historical Medal: For outstanding work in the history of Canada
- John L. Synge Award: For outstanding research in any of the branches of the mathematical sciences
- Kitty Newman Award: For outstanding contributions from an emerging scholar in the field of philosophy
- Lorne Pierce Medal: For an achievement in critical or imaginative literature
- McLaughlin Medal: For important research of sustained excellence in medical science
- Michael P. Païdoussis Medal: For outstanding contributions to research, education and leadership in applied mechanics. Solid continuum mechanics, fluid mechanics and fluid-structure interaction are all included (terms under review)
- Miroslaw Romanowski Medal: For scientific work relating to environmental problems
- RSC Eric Jackman Prize: For path-breaking and sustained scientific contributions to preventing harm, strengthening resilience, or otherwise benefiting humankind through research in one or more behavioural and social science fields
- Rutherford Memorial Medals: For outstanding research in physics and in chemistry
- Ursula Franklin Award in Gender Studies: For contributions to furthering our understanding of issues concerning gender.
- Yvan Allaire Medal: For outstanding contributions in governance of public and private organizations
- Willet G. Miller Medal: For outstanding research in earth sciences and ocean & atmospheric sciences.
