UBC recognizes individual investigators who demonstrate excellence in research through a suite of nine annual research awards and fellowships that span all disciplines in the sciences, applied sciences, medicine, arts, social sciences, and humanities.
Summary of changes in 2026:
- Due to the usual deadline falling on a weekend, full nominations are due by November 16th, 11:59pm P.T.
- Three new awards are now available:
- Killam Emerging Faculty Research Fellowship
- Engaged Research Award
- Innovation Award
- The Killam Faculty Research Fellowships are no longer offered
These awards have two nomination stages:
- Expression of Intent (EOI) due September 15*, 11:59 pm P.T. This optional stage assists in planning and EOIs are not evaluated. Nominations can still be submitted if the EOI deadline is missed. Note: EOI not requested for Killam Accelerator Research Fellowships given the required Faculty-led nomination process.
- Full Nomination due November 15*, 11:59 pm P.T. All required components must be submitted through the application portal in a single PDF. There are no specified requirements for font, font size, or page margins but we emphasize considering readability for reviewers and quality over quantity.
* If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, submissions are due by 11:59pm P.T. on the following business day.
Results are typically announced in March, and celebrated at an annual prizes reception in June.
